"I pray that this single deed is returned to you ten thousand-fold. Thank you for putting hope back into the hearts of my friends on dialysis who witnessed my miracle come true. I promise that I will treat our kidney like a precious flower and make sure she lasts for the next fifty years. Sending you the biggest hug until we can meet one day! "
~ Deborah B. Wright
My name is Deborah B Wright and I’d like to tell you about my journey to receive a kidney transplant. My journey began in 2015 when I was diagnosed with Stage Four kidney disease. By July of 2016 I had reached Stage Five and had to begin dialysis. While on dialysis, I did everything possible to try to find a match to receive a kidney, but now it was a waiting game. My wait was five years.
On July 2, 2020, while most people were fretting over the Coronavirus, I received the call I had been waiting for! I was fortunate to have a living donor match, and my surgery was scheduled for the next week. I was in a stupor but somehow managed to call my family to relay the good news. The reality finally hit me. My wait was over.
Whenever I talk of my journey, I always thank the tremendous transplant team at Hartford Hospital; every nurse, every doctor, every surgeon that played a role. My greatest gratitude is to my anonymous angel who provided my gift of life. I don’t know who you are, and we may never get the chance to meet, but I need you to know that your unselfish donation of your kidney will never be forgotten. You have given me a chance to live a normal life again free from dialysis.
I pray that this single deed is returned to you ten thousand-fold. Thank you for putting hope back into the hearts of my friends on dialysis who witnessed my miracle come true. I promise that I will treat our kidney like a precious flower and make sure she lasts for the next fifty years. Sending you the biggest hug until we can meet one day!
